Fomo vs Robinhood: A Regulated Broker With a Few Memecoins, or a Self-Custody App With All of Them

Robinhood built the chain that half of this site is about. Its own app lets you buy a couple of the coins on it. Fomo lets you buy all of them, plus five other chains, from a wallet you control. The comparison people actually want is about custody and coverage, not fees.

Disclosure & risk: Fomo links are referral links; we earn a commission and you get 10% off. No relationship with Robinhood. Memecoins are extremely high-risk. Not financial advice.

The short version: Robinhood is a regulated broker that lists a curated handful of crypto assets; Fomo is a self-custody app that lists everything with a pool. Robinhood's brokerage app advertises commission-free crypto (its revenue is in the spread), holds the assets in custody, and added CASHCAT, the first breakout memecoin on its own chain, on August 6, 2026. Fomo charges about 0.50% per swap (0.45% with a referral, $0.95 minimum on Solana), keeps keys with you, and lists thousands of tokens across Solana, Base, BNB Chain, Monad, Ethereum and Robinhood Chain, including every launchpad coin on the chain Robinhood built. For the few coins both offer, the broker is cheaper and simpler. For the rest, only one of them has them.

Robinhood (brokerage app)

Regulated US broker. Curated crypto list plus a small number of Robinhood Chain memecoins (CASHCAT since Aug 6, 2026). Commission-free with spread. Custodial: Robinhood holds the assets. Stock, options and crypto in one account. Separate Robinhood Wallet app for self-custody and on-chain access.

Fomo

Phone-first social trading app, web since April 2026. Thousands of tokens on six chains from one USD balance, gas paid. Feed of named traders. ≈0.50% per swap, $0.95 minimum on Solana, 10% off via referral. Self-custodial: split keys, FaceID, key export. No KYC for spot. Perps (non-US) via Hyperliquid and Trade.xyz.

Where each one actually wins

Robinhood wins on everything a broker is for: custody with a company to call, no per-trade fee on the coins it lists, stocks and crypto in one account, tax documents, and the simple fact that a beginner's first bitcoin purchase there cannot be sent to the wrong network. If you want CASHCAT and nothing else on the chain, buying it in the Robinhood app is the least eventful way.

Fomo wins on coverage and on the thing brokers cannot do: the launchpad coins, the stock-paired memecoins, the Base and BNB Chain graduates, the feed of people buying them in real time, and a wallet you can export and take anywhere. It is also where PONS, Artificial Inu, BONER and the rest of the Robinhood Chain story actually trades, none of which is in the brokerage app.

The card story, shared

Both companies were named in The Block's September 1, 2026 report on memecoin purchases by credit card coded as digital goods, Robinhood through its Wallet app and Fomo through its own card route, with Chase asking Visa to look and New York's attorney general opening an inquiry. It is a payments-classification dispute, not a custody one, and it applies to the self-custody wallet product, not the brokerage. Our explainer is on the review site's card-probe page.

The realistic verdict

If you want a regulated broker to hold a few big coins and one memecoin next to your stocks, Robinhood is built for exactly that and Fomo is not trying to be it. If you want the actual Robinhood Chain memecoin market, or Solana's, or Base's, from a phone, with people to follow and keys you control, Fomo is the tool and the broker is not competing. Many people hold both: the broker for the boring part of the portfolio, the app for the part they have written off.
