Short version: Photon is a Solana speed tool, Fomo is a multi-chain convenience tool, and the fee gap is wider than people assume. Photon charges a flat 1% on every buy and every sell, so a round trip costs about 2% before priority fees and tips. Fomo charges about 0.50% per swap with a roughly $0.95 minimum on Solana, so a round trip is about 1% at ordinary sizes, 10% less through a referral. You pay Photon's premium for launch-time execution and presets. If you are not sniping launches, you are paying for a seat you do not use.
Photon
Browser terminal, Solana-first. New-pair discovery, sniping, quick-buy presets, fast routing, trending tables. Generates a trading wallet and hands you the private key. Flat 1% platform fee per transaction, both directions; Solana priority fees and Jito tips extra. No published volume tiers.

Fomo
Phone-first social trading app, web since April 2026. Feed of named traders, follow with alerts, one-slide execution. Solana, Base, BNB Chain, Monad, Ethereum, Robinhood Chain from one USD balance, gas sponsored. About 0.50% per swap, roughly $0.95 minimum on Solana, 10% off via referral. Split-key embedded wallet, FaceID, key export.
Where each one actually wins
Photon wins at the launch minute: new pairs the second they appear, presets that buy in one click with your slippage and tip already set, and a tables-first layout for watching many tickers at once. If you snipe, this is a purpose-built instrument and a phone app cannot compete.
Fomo wins everywhere else: the other 23 hours, the other five chains, the onboarding of anyone who does not want to manage a raw private key, and the feed, which turns "what are people buying" from a research task into a scroll. It also wins on price for any trade above about $95 on Solana, and on every trade on the chains where it has no fee minimum.
Custody, the detail comparisons skip
Photon creates a wallet for you and shows the private key once; from then on you are the security team. That is honest self-custody, and it is also how people lose everything to a clipboard trojan. Fomo's embedded wallet splits the key with Shamir's Secret Sharing, reassembles it only in secure hardware when you sign, gates withdrawals and key export behind FaceID, and still lets you export the key. Both are non-custodial. One of them assumes you are a professional.

Fees at three sizes
| Round trip | Photon (1% + 1%) | Fomo, Solana (0.50% + 0.50%, $0.95 min) |
|---|---|---|
| $50 | $1.00 + priority | $1.90 |
| $200 | $4.00 + priority | $2.00 |
| $1,000 | $20.00 + priority | $10.00 |
The minimum makes Fomo the more expensive choice under about $95 per swap on Solana, and the cheaper one above. On Base, BNB Chain and Monad the fee breakdowns we have seen show no minimum on Fomo, which is where small-clip traders should be anyway.
The realistic verdict
If your edge is being first into a launch, use Photon and accept the fee as the price of the seat. If your edge is judgement, patience and reach, Fomo is cheaper, safer to hand to a human, and covers five chains Photon does not. The snipers we know keep Photon open at launch hours and Fomo in their pocket, and pay 0.50% for everything that is not a launch.
